New Park

Yesterday, before bedtime, Katie and I decided to head to a new park. It's just over in the next neighbourhood. It's nice to try out a new park very now and then. And the little bit of an extra walk was nice too.The swings, "Weeeee!", are over that way.
See that slide behind me? Mom wouldn't let me go on that pne because it was too big, but there was a smaller slide that was awesome!
I wasn't too happy about heading home. But I guess I was tired.

Other things to note this week, before I forget...Katie is WAY more into standing this week than she has been in a while. Yesterday, when I said lets go for a walk, she stiffened/straightened her legs as I picked her up and when I went to put her back down because I forgot something, she wouldn't let me. And the crawling over dad is getting so good...AND, (see, I knew I was forgetting something)...yesterday, Katie was TWICE able to get back into sitting position from lying down...something she could have done for ages I'm sure but hasn't ever done.

I foresee a crib lowering in the VERY near future (so near we should have done it yesterday!). What I mean is, we now have to lower the crib mattress so the bars are higher and when she does eventually learn to pull herself to standing position, she's not in any danger of tipping over and falling out.

Very exciting news! What else...and she is in a book phase. Ben says I asked for it since I wanted Katie to be a bookworm. She now loves books so much that she holds up books for us all day long asking us to read to her. I didn't think I'd be tired of her books yet but really, I can only read "Stop, Train, Stop" (Thomas the tank engine) about 45 times before I get tired of it.

Hope you have a great Wednesday!

Life with the Cute

I sometimes can't believe that Katie's cuteness hasn't worn off. I STILL think she's the cutest thing ever and that everything she does is absolutely adorable. I guess that's my job and that's what keeps the blog going. =)

Yesterday morning I let Katie play around with my scarf (I'm still a bit chilly here at times, even though the weather is technically nicer). She says "scarf" but it comes out sounding like car.
Cute.

Really, the scarf was great and she had fun for a good half hour...ending with a giggly peek-a-boo session.
Katie also seemed to be into standing and otherwise using her legs yesterday...she's been avoiding standing for a few weeks now. Here's hoping we can keep the momentum going!

I took a great little video of Katie crawling over Ben...very good use of legs. She was very proud of herself.

Where's the pig?

This weekend was fun but went by too fast. Ben played "where's the pig" with Katie. She was surprisingly good at finding it...though I suppose it's easy when each "cup" is a different colour and has a whole in it. Ben may not be taking this game out on the street to hustle money after all. =)Besides being "good" at it, Katie had lots of fun.

Here's a video of all the fun!

We also went and played in the big bedroom this weekend...
Katie goes up and down...weeee!And dad threw in a pop quiz:
Where's your tongue?Where's your belly button?
Where's dad's nose?
Where's your knee?
Where's the light?
I think she passed. She was tired after all that thinking and a cuddle with dad was just perfect.
Saturday morning we went to the farmer's market...it wasn't too rainy thank goodness. We used the backpack because it can get pretty crowded (though it wasn't at 8am). Katie had so much fun looking around and smiling at all the people. We had a great time and will try and go more often.Later on we met Grandpa Ken and Grandma Cheryl for coffee.
Sunday we had a fun brunch at Grandma Mary's and Papa's to celebrate Papa's Birthday! Yummy brunch and good company and balloons = good times.
We also went for a BBQ dinner at a friend's (Megan, Rob and little boy D) house in the evening, but forgot to take pictures. D and Katie did some playing together...if you call taking toys from one another (reverse-sharing) playing. =) We had a great time.

Today the plan is to head out to strollercize and perhaps clean up the house a bit...we'll see what the day brings I guess.

Have a happy Monday!
PS...Katie was caught texting at Papa's last week...Auntie Alli's blogged it better than I could...HERE.

Playdate and an Anniversary

Yesterday was a nice day. The weather was nicer than I expected it to be...windy and warm...apparently the rain starts today (mega rain...supposedly all day long!).

Katie was happy playing with her toys in the morning. (while mom cleaned house)And company arrived in the afternoon. Amy and her son J came early and we went for a little run (J's in the yellow shirt). And then Megan and D joined us for a playdate.
Katie had a great time, though there was some roughhousing...is it a boy thing? I won't name names as to who was feeling slappy, but it wasn't Katie.
Regardless, it was SO MUCH fun to watch the kids play near each other (they don't really seem to "get" playing "with" each other yet) and it's always nice hanging out with the moms.

This morning we were up and about driving Ben to work (rain) and popped by Joanne and the girls' place with coffee and muffins...I figured, since we're all up early, we may as well get in a playdate...don't you think? We had lots of fun but didn't stay too long as Katie was starting to rub her eyes.

Katie is now sleeping and I'm not sure what the rest of the day holds. Maybe to the park for a swim? =)

And (almost forgot!) the anniversary in the title...why it's for the BLOG! It's a year ago today we had our first post at Daily Katie. Thanks to all who read and have let us know they enjoy reading, it's been a fun way to keep in touch and journal a year with Katie.

Have a happy (and wet) Wednesday!

Some Good Things and a Long Weekend.

Katie was a darling all the long weekend. It was warm enough that she spent lots of time in cool dresses. She is doing several cute things that are new and I'll share as we go along.

We've taught her to stretch...we say "stretch" and her arms go up.
Fun game! This was Thursday while we had dinner at Grandma Cheryl and Grandpa Ken's.
Friday Ben had the day off and got to play with Katie all day long. He dressed her all cute and even put barrettes in her hair!
And he came by early to pick me up from work so we got to show her off a bit. Here they are waiting for me to finish work.
Saturday we had a big day planned that demanded another adorable dress...straight from Hawaii (from G Cheryl) this dress is so cute. But all my pictures had her doing this:

Or this. Not posing well for the camera today. (speaking of camera...that's another work she's picked up..."kamra")We drove up to Russ and Stephanie's lake cabin Sat afternoon. Katie slept in the car...look how sleepy! She woke up when we arrived and was awesome, happy and fun the whole time! (see my "mom" hat? Must model good hat-wearing behavior.)(and Steph did a great job showing Katie how to wear sunglasses...although Katie wouldn't wear them at all. )Another friend read her stories...which she loved! It was very warm and sunny so we were sunscreen crazy and put tons on her. I'm proud to say that we managed not to get any sun burn on her that I can see. She had an excellent nap in the playpen. Ben and I took turns (30 min each) staying in the cabin with her and hanging out by the water. It was a great system and we both got to read a bit and still hang out with everyone.

Katie enjoyed the hammock too. On the drive home from the lake, Ben was commenting on a speedy driver (when aren't we doing this!) and said "Shooom" to me. And then a second after, we heard a little "shooom" from the back seat! I really think that's one of the few times I've heard her say a word without us trying to teach it to her. (well...I think a few early words like "keys" we learned this way too...before we really figured out that she was learning words)

I think it's official...we MUST watch out language in front of the B-A-B-Y. And spelling...we're spelling lots of words already so she doesn't know what we're talking about. We'll be great at spelling very soon I think (if we weren't already!)

Sunday Katie had a great nap that created some Great bedhead. And finally decided to model her sunglasses. Auntie Andrea came over for dinner, but we forgot to take pictures. So you'll just have to believe me. And yesterday we all had the day off for Victoria Day (aka May Long Weekend). The weather was lovely (though there's rain in the forecast). We did some work on the lawn and Katie had lunch with G Cheryl and G Ken while Ben and I had a lunch date (out on a patio!). Feels like summer is really here!

All in all the weekend was lovely. Great...didn't go by too fats or too slow (um...I guess a weekend can never go by too slow).

Katie is sleeping better these days...we're dressing in her in just a t-shirt or short sleeve onesie and that seems to be working better. Maybe she's warmer than we realized?

Today we have a playdate planned. Pictures tomorrow!

As promised...

...Pictures!

We begin with a very special friend. From bath time, please welcome: CrabMan.
Name taken from the show My Name is Earl ( so funny) Katie has actually this week been able to say his name. A two syllable name. (sounds like "ka-ma" sort of). She had said "Ba-By" a few times but has not said it consistently to mean "baby", so this is her first, BEST 2 syllable word.

We have also spent this past week eating bananas ("na" says Katie...don't know why she doesn't say "ba" to mean banana...maybe because there's less emphasis on the "b" sound than on the "n"?)She earned this banana when she nodded her head and said "yeah!" when I asked if she wanted some banana. It's like she really understood. So Neat!

Katie also played with dad on the floor this week. This gave me some time to do things (aka dinner) in the kitchen. It's nice hearing them play together while I work.
She hung out at Papa's while I went to the dentist. (it's all good, just a checkup) (and who should I run into but Grandma Cheryl...Small world! I knew we had the same dentist, but on the same DAY? That's a little crazy!)
Papa is a sweetheart and he found a little old keyboard thing so that Katie can "blog" when I do. She likes it!Yesterday I mentioned that we went for a walk. This was with my friend A and her son J. Aren't they cute? It was a super sunny day and warm though we weren't too hot in pants. Halfway through the walk we "found" (ok, it was planned) a lovely place for some gelato. PB and Jelly flavour...yum. I had brought some blackberries for Katie and though she hasn't been a big fan in the past, these must have been good ones, because she gobbled them down!We also made a quick stop for some bread on our way home. (well, to the car, which was at A and J's home.) Excuse the blurry photo, but this is what Katie has been doing a lot lately. She rocks out to the U2 with her legs high up in the air. So flexible! She loves the U2 (um...we may have "encouraged coughforcedcough" her)...she bops her whole body when a new song with a good beat comes on. And earlier today, when I dropped her off at Papa's there was some yummy muffin awaiting her. I had some too, so I KNOW it was yummy. Today was interesting...Katie didn't nap at all in the morning...but not the usual, "we put her down and she cries and then we give up" but more of a "she doesn't look at all tired, I guess she'll just stay up" kind of thing. She was great. And Papa said she slept from 12:30 until 3:00. I think this is perhaps the beginning of phasing out the morning nap...? We'll see.
