Another One!

Another what?

Well...what I didn't tell you on Friday was that I posted early because out little one decided to wake up early. As in 5:00AM early. Yes. We were not impressed. By 6:00AM I had given up and decided we were just getting up early that day. It wasn't until after her nap that I figured out why. Tooth number 5!

Never must I doubt my easy going Katie...I should know that when she's "off" that something is up because she is never "off" without a reason. Trust The Baby. The new tooth had just broken through...it's the one just to the right (your right, her left) of her two bottom teeth. We've had no problems since and a happy girl all weekend.

Friday night we jumped. Tried it with a canopy (blanket) and found that it makes Katie's hair all static-y! Fun!
Saturday we had a nice visit with our friends David and Neil. It was such a nice visit...it had been way too long since we had seen them last. David and Neil also brought an awesome Christmas present for Katie, of which I will share pictures later. (Mom took no pictures of their visit...Bad Mommy Blogger!). So instead, you get cute baby pictures post visit.

Katie playing with newspaper fliers.

And Saturday night Katie tried eating pasta for the first time. Tiny pasta shells cut in half yum. No sauce yet! (Although, come to think of it now, we could do sauce maybe for her...something like a plain tomato sauce...plain without seasonings maybe? When can a baby eat spices etc? I don't know...I'll have to find out!)

Notice the New-Old high chair...this was Ben's baby high chair and Grandpa and Grandma refinished it and brought it over. Such a beautiful high chair! We were trying it without the cushion to prop her up, but have decided that the cushion is better for now.
Katie likes pasta! (and BONUS...it gives mom and dad more time to eat since Katie can feed herself and do it s-l-o-w-l-y)
Hmm...really, I'm not sure what's up with this face. I do not serve sour pasta...I think she's just chewing. Also this weekend...I went to Bridal Fantasy with Auntie Andrea, Grandma Mary and Tracey (another bridesmaid) on Sunday morning. Saw lots of pretty things...flower arrangements, table settings, dressed, jewelry, cakes...and all sorts of things.

After Ben and Katie and I went to a friend's (from strollercize) house for a lunch/playdate. We had a lovely time. Ben went to school later in the afternoon to help students prepare for exams and we finished off the weekend with dinner at Grandma and Papa's.

How was your weekend?

Katie Maid or Baby Ninja?

Just a quick one today...we didn't do much of anything yesterday...just hung around and cleaned house. Katie helped with this. Once I carefully explained that the Swiffer wasn't a giant spoon she was a big help!
Although Ben did say she looks a bit like she's wielding a ninja stick (Um...that's a Bo or Staff technically now that I look it up...).

For the record, I did complete most of my to do list from the other day. Posting it was motivating. Thanks for the help!

Enjoy your TGIF everyone!

More movin and groovin

Katie's "scooting" is proving very entertaining these days. It's like we're always playing a game of "Where will Katie Be?". I realize this is only training for the real thing when she starts crawling and I have mini heart attacks when she's moved so far I can't find her fast enough. Still very fun to play!

Here, I had left her more in the center of the room and she's pushed back to explore under her crib. (where we are currently storing her train set)"Oooooh, Train Set!"
And next time I looked, she's turned over and around and back (or something) somehow. Wow!
What's that she's wearing you ask? (you remember the pants I'm sure!) It's a cute shirt! Ben and I both love it! (Ben's having some pink wardrobe rebellion these days...I say ok, balance IS nice)

And meal time fun continues...Katie does sometimes like to get her hands in her food, and I occasionally indulge her, because she does need to learn stuff. "What does cereal feel like squished between fingers? Can I put it all over the chair and my outfit?" Sometimes we see "What does it taste like?" but not always.

There are attempts to grab the spoon sometime, although usually the wrong end. Today I found a teachable moment and put the spoon properly in her hand and walked her through the "getting food on spoon and feeding yourself" steps. She seems to understand... Either this is going to be great or I've created a monster!

When we're bored and take boring pictures.

Yep. We're bored. Well, ok, we're not really bored, we're just not doing anything terribly exciting and worth photographing.
There was a coffee date with Papa and Mrs Ferguson yesterday but I forgot the camera.
So instead you get pictures of Katie on the floor.
NOT picking her nose:
(really, she wasn't...I don't think she knows how yet)

Playing with the camera tripod (what a great example of a toy that's not really a toy...here's hoping it's not lead painted or bad plastic!)
(if you look closely you'll see a top tooth!)
Playing with Mirror Katie.
And in the evening we have fun with dad.
Playing peek a boo under the covers.

Eating fine leather shoes and loving the camera. Now when we lie on dad (or mom) the object appears to be to roll over or turn around as fast as we can.
"I LOVE the camera!"
Closer...
And Closer...She's watching you...!Today I have a wee to do list that includes calling Sears (AGAIN) about the microwave that's still missing a part, calling the Peg Perego people about how the stroller won't collapse anymore, returning dvd's to the library, going to strollercize and...what else...oh yeah, calling the car place for a checkup and oil change.

I'm only telling you all so that I have some accountability, not because I think this list is interesting.

Please, next time you see me, ask how my list is going. Thanks!

Brought to you by the letter "N"

This weekend Katie started making "N" sounds...neh neh neh...adding to the repertoire that includes M sounds, Y (as in Ya) sounds and the occasional D sound. (Ben, am I missing anything?). So very Neat to see the language come about...making all those sounds seems easy to us, but when you see her little tongue trying and learning to make sounds...it's amazing! This weekend was pretty low key...Friday Katie enjoyed some one on one time with her zipper (one of her favorite words lately...she smiles and sometimes giggles when you say it!)

She was also very busy rolling over both this way and that way. Here's a photojournalistic view of rolling over. (maybe if you blink fast while looking at each picture it'll seem like a movie?)

We also were very excited to see Grandma Cheryl after her return from Hawaii...we missed her! (Katie's fauxhawk was entirely dad's idea)We tried eating blueberries for the first time...yum!Saturday Night we had an evening at Russ and Stephanie's. Katie had a lovely visit with their adorable kitten, Honey. (who clearly knows how to pose for the camera!)
Is there an uncomfortable "predator/prey" vibe going on in this picture or is it just me?And, there was much Wii fun to be had after Katie had gone to sleep...with a little Guitar Hero. We all had lots of fun rocking out.
My band name would apparently be "U2 Can Have Red Socks":
Ben (who didn't get booed off the stage) is from the Yoo Rock Fighters. Now if you'll please excuse me, I have to take care of a little one who thought it would be funny to wake up twice for undetermined reasons last Night AND thinks that means she doesn't Need to Nap this morning. (Never mind if I Need to Nap this morning!)

The Exploratron

This morning, as I read finished reading the paper I let Katie have some play time on a blanket in the living room. Within easy viewing distance, but away enough that she would play by herself. Today it feels like she's an exploring machine! She's rolling from back to front and then back again with no effort. Grabbing this toy and that toy and holding them up, chewing on them, rattling them. I didn't put too many toys right around her, but she's rolled and shimmied over to a nearby pile of toys and is just having fun fun fun! It's so neat to see. I'm sure I've said this, but she's definitely not "crawling" yet, but her movement and strength is getting better everyday. For a non-crawler, she can cover quite a bit of ground!

She's also playing with her mouth and tongue lately...clicking her tongue a bit and smacking her lips a bit...so cute! I'll try and video it soon, but it's so random it's hard to catch on film.

Yesterday I let her play under the table...a bit of a new world. (that's the cord to the headphones there, sorry about that)
(see, I got rid of it when I noticed it)
She just goes and slides backwards! And to be completely honest, she did at one point manage to pull herself forward by about a centimeter just by using her hands on the hardwood. Only once though.

Yesterday while eating, she saw dad's previously mentioned headphones and we indulged her a bit by trying them on. Future DJ?
We also had a lovely coffee date with Those _____ Girls...but I forgot the camera! They've grown so much in the last month! They have more hair and cute tiny barrettes...and they're walking! Whoa...Jo Anne is sure to be getting some exercise with those girls running around!

Overall yesterday was a happy day with a happy baby!

A Goodbye...

How to say this? Recently my Grandmother passed away...Katie's mom's mom's mom. Though not entirely unexpected it's still a bit hard to process. Pictured here in early April.Grandma T. was a wonderful part of my life and especially my childhood. One of my favorite memories of childhood were the many summers spent almost entirely underwater in the pool in her backyard. I'm trying very hard to convince G Mary and G Dan that their fish pond needs upgrading to a full size pool. =)

Grandma T. will be missed and we are happy she is reunited with Grandpa and know we will see her again when our time comes. Love you Grandma!

While funerals are never "fun" they are nice because you get to see a lot of family(and we have a lot!). We all gathered at my mom and dad's the evening before the funeral. Katie and my cousin Shannon:Lots of people!
Katie was a hit and great to have around. Cousins Dani and Connor were very fun to play with.
And as I mentioned, even though it was for sad reasons we got together, there was a lot of laughter.

The next day post funeral, we gathered for pizza. (Katie loves necklaces...guard your jewelry ladies! And never underestimate the power of an envelope. Yesterday, while dad was working hard at school (yay for bringing home the bacon!) Katie and I went to G Mary and G Dan's...also known as Papa...and we discovered that apparently even toy Chameleons can camouflage!
Katie says "It starts with matching toys...wait until I discover purses and shoes!"
Wishing you all a happy Thursday!
