Poor Baby!

Sadly, Katie is a big sicko today. She had a cough and sneezy thing this weekend that developed a bit and now (though still fairly cheerful) her breathing is terrible and she can barely "talk" or cry because she's so stuffed up. We think she'll be fine but we're keeping an eye on it.

She did have a good weekend though...Look at these lovely pants! We just LOVE these pants. They're bright and colourful and comfortable. And the shirt is from MEC in a weird salmon colour that wouldn't match anything...but it matches these pants! How cool is that?
Friday Katie and I went to Costco and she had her first ride in a shopping cart. She loved it! And it's great for us because since moving out of the bucket car seat, options for Costco shopping were to Bjorn her (which she's almost too big for now) or bring her stroller in (which doesn't work well when you're buying anything big, like diapers). So happy!
Saturday we ventured out for a bit of shopping. Urban Barn was fun and Katie enjoyed the big comfy couch.
We also went to a nearby Chap-digo (Chapters/Indigo...Ben made up that name isn't it fun?) and while mom had a coffee and dad had a bearclaw (random Flickr bearclaw picture), Katie had fun with a bag.

Also this weekend, we had a visit from Andrea...she'd been away for a couple of weeks including a conference in Vegas...lucky girl. The reunion of Katie and her Dimple Buddy was a happy one. And not just because there was a present. =)
Um...yes, Katie did wear the same outfit two days in a row, but it was too cute not too! Very good for Jumping.
Sunday we skipped Katie's last swimming lesson because it was apparent she was getting this cold, so we hung out and napped and Katie had lunch in the style of the French (meaning it took hours to eat). It took Katie a while to eat because mom let her play with her food and get a little messy.
Not really fun to cleanup afterwards but worth it.
Today will be low key and we're skipping strollercize. I don't think the other mom's would be too happy with me bringing Germy Girl. At least she's sick now and not during Christmas Holidays...that would be even less fun!

Have a happy Monday!

La-Z-Dad!

Yesterday was Thursday and as our bowling partners are still relaxing in Cuba we decided to bowl off early...this way we don't need babysitters and we can have an early night. Usually when bowling we don't get home until after 10pm, which (are we getting old yet?) feels quite late to us. When there's just two of us, bowling goes quickly so Katie doesn't seem to mind hanging out and watching us bowl. We do attend to her if necessary.

Katie was stunned to see how big dad's bowling shoes are.And a little worried...don't worry, your feet probably won't be that big!
Getting to spend an evening at home with her is always fun for dad (who's had a busy week and came home twice this week after she had already gone to sleep...Christmas...can you get here any faster?). Dad proves he makes an excellent substitute for a La-z-Boy (La-z-Dad!)

The La-Z-Dad's not just cuddly, but fun and silly too!
Katie and I did end up going to WEM yesterday. We did pick of a few little gifts (Love H+M!)(no link to their website because it's slow to load and seriously promoting their holiday underwear in a way that I don't appreciate...really annoying!) but enjoyed watching all the people too. I wonder, as I always do when at the mall on a weekday, where do all these people come from...don't they have to work? =)

Tonight I have book club so dad's on his own with Katie. Good way to start the weekend I think!

Hope you enjoy yours!

Busy Sleeper

Yesterday when Katie was napping she was very busy. I know because when I heard her wake up and went to go get her, she looked like this.
And closer up...
Completely perpendicular in her crib. Rest assured I am not crazy and do not purposely place her like this for her nap. She was in the crib lengthwise until she got busy during nap time and turned herself around. That's a lot of hard work! Can you imagine doing this in your big people bed? Keep in mind she doesn't get on her hands and knees just yet, it's all shimmying etc.

What a girl!

Yes, we did go to strollercize yesterday and it wasn't as cold as I'd feared. Today we are doing laundry and perhaps a trip to the big mall? We'll see.

And I'm actually dying to try this No-Knead Bread recipe, but it takes 18 hours of rising time and I just haven't quite figured out how to make sure I'm ready to bake the bread 18 hours from now. Maybe a weekend project?

Happy Thursday!

P.S. Thank you Scouts!

Thank you Scouts for delivering yummy caramel popcorn to my door yesterday. I had forgotten that we even ordered it! It is very tasty and Ben will be lucky if there is any left for him by the time he gets home.

Snow Days

We've had some snowy days here this week. And cold enough that Katie and I decided to make Monday a Snow Day and stay home from strollercize. Good plan.

Katie got some diaper free time...

...on her Frog towel, in front of the mirror. So much fun!

I also decided that for a snow day we should stay all day in pajamas. Katie thought it was a great idea.
Here's a picture of the snow on the tree outside our front window.
Note that this was of course taken from indoors...not going out if we don't have to!

Yesterday, Katie and I decided to do the same thing. Pajamas almost all day again. And more photos taken on the floor in front of the couch. I was having fun with the "multiple pictures" setting (or whatever you call it), where you hold the button down and it takes continuous shots. You end up with some good shots like this:(Was Katie going CRAZY with cabin fever?...Nope, she's fine!)
Being (stuck) inside did make mom a little crazy, er I mean CRAFTY and I whipped up this:A stuffed elephant for Katie! From a 10 year old pair of corduroy pants (Eurofit? What was I thinking!?) (Eurofit=baggy and ugly). I still have to make eyes and other details, but so far so good. No pattern, just winging it. Hope Katie likes it! Better pictures when it's all finished.

And Dad is famous...he was on the news (for about a nanosecond) yesterday for playing dodgeball at school.

We had soup again for dinner yesterday...beef barley from the company's coming slow cooker book. And fresh bread from the bread machine.

Today Katie and I ARE going out, even though the weather's not much nicer. She has her second flu shot this morning and we really should get to strollercize this afternoon. Even in a -29C windchill? (how crazy is the weather when it actually gets colder as the day goes on??) Hmm...We'll see.

DECcoldEMBER - with many pictures!

Funny how December happens and the cold sneaks in. It's pretty freezing these days...in the -20 (-27 with windchill) range. We're bundling up and eating soup.

Thank goodness for warm pink things! Friday night we had dinner at G Cheryl and G Ken's. Grandpa learned how far Katie can lean...especially when she wants puffed wheat!
And we all reminded ourselves that the best toys are kitchen tools (or boxes, or paper).Katie gives Grandma the "who's holding me now? Ah, it's you! That's good!" look. And Katie was denied dad's ice cream. "No ice cream for you!"Grandma brought out some tiny baby books. We hadn't been to Grandma and Grandpa's house in a while so we made sure to visit a few different rooms. And proof that Katie enjoys playing on any bed, not just mom and dad's. We explored the hardwood floor and spent quality time with Grandpa.Went up to the loft and sat in the BIG chair. Grandma pulled out the pop up book with animal mouths that try to eat you...Katie was scared! And then realized it was just a book!Katie explored carpet...maybe for the first time? We weren't sure, but she certainly hasn't been on a lot of carpet. Saturday we met Russ and Steph for Brunch. Yum. And got Russ to take a rare family photo of the three of us.Saturday we also went to a lovely craft fair. We bought this cool t-shirt. Doesn't Katie look hip?Apparently we must be on a blue kick, because we picked up another item. Meet the newest addition to the house...Blue Haired Girl:Coming soon to a wall near you (near you when you come to our house!). She's officially known as Sea for Hair and done by local artist Amanda Woodward, who is a fellow knitter as well.

In other news, and I'll make this quick since this is getting long anyway, Katie is perfect. She's happy and cute and fun and pooping nicely.

(Poop Story Warning...if you don't like poop, don't read!!)

I was changing Katie just before she went down for her first nap this morning, as I had suspicions of some bum-ish activity. I must be a good bum activity sensor, because I was correct. Big Poop. I set the dirty diaper on the table while I cleaned her up and then as I wrapped up the wipes in the diaper and threw it all away, I noticed something. Something on the floor. What the heck...HOW did a huge bit of poop get on the floor AND I didn't notice? "Didn't notice" enough to step in it. Ah, the things we do for our babies. (Katie, if you're 13 years old now and reading this, I'm sorry, don't be embarrassed it's natural and good and yes, that's how much we love you.)

Enjoy your Monday!

*Edited to add: For some reason the pictures on this post disappeared...so I've re-added them...hopefully they don't reappear and have everyone seeing double! - December 8th/07*
